A Relaxed Rye Wedding on 35mm Film

This wedding was particularly close to home. Toby is my wife’s brother, so I already knew many of the family stories and moments behind the day.

It began at The Ypres Castle Inn, where Toby and his groomsmen shared a quiet drink before walking through Rye to St Mary’s Church. I photographed the morning on digital and 35mm film, keeping things simple and letting the day unfold around me.

The ceremony was heartwarming and traditional. Afterwards, everyone gathered outside for confetti before walking back through the cobbled streets together.

The reception took place at The George in Rye, whose Georgian rooms and patterned interiors gave the day plenty of character.

By the evening, the ballroom had become a crowded dance floor. I worked close to the action, allowing the movement, changing light and occasional imperfections to remain part of the photographs.
